Greenerity GmbH

Development, production, and distribution of catalyst-coated membranes and membrane electrode assemblies for hydrogen fuel cells and water electrolysis.

Company History of Greenerity GmbH

The roots of today’s Greenerity GmbH date back to the 1990s, when initial research and development activities in the field of PEM fuel cells and PEM electrolysis began at Degussa AG’s research site in Hanau.

After several sales and rebrandings of Degussa Group’s precious metals business units, the Belgian materials technology company Umicore S.A. took over the respective operations in 2003.

On July 1, 2006, Umicore, together with the Belgian company Solvay S.A., established the joint venture SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG. The goal was to combine the expertise of both companies in catalyst, membrane, and ionomer technologies to position themselves as a strong partner in the growing fuel cell market.

After nine successful years, SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG — then employing around 40 staff — was acquired in 2015 by the Japanese technology group Toray Industries, Inc., and renamed Greenerity GmbH in early 2016.

Over the past ten years as part of the Toray Group, Greenerity GmbH has grown into a company with three locations in Alzenau (Bavaria) and Hanau (Hesse).

Expansion of our main site in 2020 – an investment in the future

To meet the steadily growing demand and sustainably expand our production capacities, we have extended our existing manufacturing facility with a modern annex. This investment sends a clear signal of our commitment to growth, innovation, and long-term competitiveness.

The new building extension not only provides additional space for state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, but also enables more efficient workflows and even more flexible production planning. This strengthens our market position while simultaneously creating new jobs in the region.

This expansion is a key element of our strategic direction – aimed at continuing to meet the growing demands of our customers through quality, reliability, and technological excellence.
