Toray Group takes over SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG, a producer of membrane electrode assemblies for fuel cells and water electrolysis in Hanau, Germany
Toray, a leading chemical company producing fibers & textiles, plastics & chemicals and with an especially strong position in carbon fiber composite materials, acquires 100% of the shares of SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG from Solvay and Umicore and becomes the owner of the company on July 1st, 2015.
The company SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG will continue its operations and its business model in Hanau, Germany, to further grow the global activities as a leading producer of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for fuel cells and water electrolysis.

In 9 years since its formation SolviCore developed and produced cutting edge electrochemical key components for emission free hydrogen generation via electrolysis and electricity generation via fuel cells. Toray is not only a supplier of key materials for fuel cells and Toyota’s fuel cell vehicle, but also a company with excellent manufacturing/engineering technology.
With this extended background in materials and manufacturing technologies, SolviCore GmbH & Co. KG will be in the position to establish the production technologies to meet volume, quality standard and cost requirements of the demanding industry.
